While we were in Oklahoma, relatives came to visit. Makaela's great Granddad and Great grandma Genie came up from Texas. While Makaela usually plays shy around older men, she definitely had gramps on his toes! They are dancing to a Dora the Explorer music book she got. Sorry the video is sideways- I'm not too sure what happened here.

Father's day
Our father's day was awesome! We woke up matt with all his gifts: a handmade book by Kaela titled, "Why I love My Daddy", a T-shirt Makaela helped paint and some crafts from daycare. The dogs even hopped up on the bed with their card to Matt. After breakfast we headed to the Honolulu zoo to hang out with the animals. Makaela got to the petting zoo and pet the goats, but she kept calling them "puppies". Her favorite was definitely the koi pond with the built in viewing tunnel. It was a great day, a bit warm, but nice. We headed off to Cheesecake factory for lunch- yum. Later in the evening, we gave matt the dessert we made- brownie cake with a lawnmower on top to let him know how much we appreciate him keeping the jungle in our backyard trimmed!

playing fetch
How do you train a toddler...treat her like a pet. Matt was playing fetch with the dogs and Makaela joined in. She sits almost as well as Leila does.

body art
After Makaela's crayon on the floor incident, I decided to give her washable markers to color with (they wash off the flooring easier). So again, she is making these beautiful pictures and then gets a little too quiet. When I look over, I see why she is so quiet.
As if that wasn't enough, as I went to get the rag to wipe her up and then I find Matt getting in on the action. He was painting her toenails...with markers.

my other daughter
Most of my posts are about Makaela and I feel like I am neglecting my canine children. They have been in need of a good grooming so I made an appointment for Bailey and Leila came with me to bring Bailey in. As soon as we got there, the woman took a hold of Leila and said "Oh, girl, you are in desperate need of my help". I was a little too embarrassed to tell her that it was in fact, the other dog I was bringing to get groomed, so I handed both of them over to get groomed. When I went to go pick them up, I honestly thought I had gotten a different dog in return. Check out Leila's before and after shots.

Sesame Street
So today the Hoffmans and Buelows headed to see Sesame Street Live downtown. Honestly, I think I was a bit more excited about it than Makaela was (to be honest, I don't think she had any idea). We went out the night before and bought an Elmo t-shirt just for the show. She was, however, very excited about the t-shirt. When we got to the show, she was very impressed by the folding seats, the popcorn and of course, Elmo. Dad even let her try cotton candy for the first time...great! Nothing like a toddler on a sugar high. Luckily she was able to dance most of the sugar off.

day at pokai bay
Today we went to Pokai Bay to say farewell to Shaun and Dom, two great friends who will be moving back to the East Coast. It couldn't be a true Hawaiian Aloha party without lots of food, babies, games and ... kayak relay races (I'm still quite bruised from those races). Even though we were at the beach, it was easier to keep an eye on the babies by putting them in a pool. There's a video of Makaela and Brooke bonding in the pool. Later in the evening, Makaela and Gavin jammed out and danced in the moonlight.

our new livingroom decor
Today, Makaela and I were hanging around the house doing chores and whatnot. During the morning, she colored me drawing after drawing (seriously, my fridge cannot handle any more Makaela originals), but while I was paying bills, I thought she was entirely too quiet. Needless to say, a good dosing of time out was called for after this one...

my little chatterbox
With all the toys she has, Makaela continues to steal our own phones so we got her a fake phone. Even though the phone is fake, she has picked up on some very real phone etiquette and mannerisms. She is quite a little chatterbox now.
